A PERSONAL ENCOUNTER

It was on October 1, 1970 that a 29 year soldier in the Indian Army, serving his country in the Himalayan mountains of North India, had a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus (SAVED) that changed his whole life.

So dramatic was the change, that within a period of 3 months he began telling people (WITNESSING) wherever he could find them, about the change in his life and how Jesus could change their lives too because He was the Saviour of the world. This soldier was none other than P G Vargis.

The call

One evening, as he sat to pray with his wife on a mountain side, he saw flames of fire on the distant Himalayan mountains in the beautiful north Indian state of Kashmir. He knew the fire on the mountain indicated people dwelling there.

A question pierced his heart, "Who will tell them about Jesus Christ ?"

Faith Response

Brother Vargis did not hesitate to obey God’s call. He resigned from the Army. His wife, Lilly also resigned from the teacher’s job she was offered and joined him in Kashmir.

KATRA - Kashmir

With empty pockets but with the faith of Abraham they set out with their 10 month old child to KATRA, one of the sacred pilgrimage centers in India. Katra had no Christians. P.G. Vargis and Lilly had nobody to send or encourage them, but they knew that the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob was with them.

Katra soon saw a mighty move of God. This stronghold of the enemy showed signs of crumbling as within a year 100 people were baptized. Vargis walked all over the inaccessible mountains and penetrated the interior Himalayan villages with the Good News ( GOSPEL ) of Jesus Christ. Within another year, churches were planted in 12 mountain villages.

The Fire Spreads

There was now indeed fire on the Himalayas and the fire could not be contained! Vargis knew that God now wanted them to move to the plains of India.They moved to the Punjab. God continued to bring in co-warriors to work with them and so the work grew and prospered.

INDIAN EVANGELICAL TEAM (IET)

In 1977 the work registered as a charitable society by the name of “Indian Evangelical Team”. The vision grew from Kashmir and Punjab to the entire Indian sub continent. IET was ready to face any challenge - TO REACH THE UNREACHED AT ANY COST - was the motto!

IET Today

There is no stopping what God has started. IET has grown to a family of workers toiling in most of the states of India. There is only one vision that grips their hearts - to see this precious nation shine with the glory of God.

Some of the ministries IET is involved in are -

* Children’s Home
* Missions
* Counselling
* Publications
* Technical Schools
* Bible Training
* Film Ministry
* Pastors Seminars
* Mercy Ministries
* Crusades

Missions

Every year these ministries rescue thousands from the clutches of death and give them life in Jesus.

The Future

There is no doubt in our hearts that we shall live to see our hearts cry - "LORD, LET US SEE OUR NATION SAVED IN OUR LIFETIME", come to pass! We are determined to see this dream become a reality! Even as you read this, scores are being touched with the love of Christ. But is it possible to do this alone? Never! We need you to stand with us to see the dream come true. We want you to be a part of our us, as one family and we shall see India saved!

THE VARGIS FAMILY

P.G. Vargis and Lilly are currently based in New Delhi. God has blessed them with five wonderful children.

Aby, the eldest son is serving God with his father after completing his Masters in Environmental Science and his M. Div. from Oral Roberts University. He is a decision making senior in IET. He is married to Babitha a medical doctor who has a dream to establish a medical ministry in central India. The Lord blessed them with two kids Shawn and Michelle.

Annie, their daughter has completed her Masters at Fuller's Theological Seminary in family counselling and is in Church planting ministry at Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat with her husband Pastor James Mathew. They are blessed with two children Saakshi and Namrata.

Blesson has completed his graduation in Business Administration and Bible training in Sweden is now working full-time with IET as a missionary. He is married to Rachel and both are in Rugby, England planting an Asian Church.

Grace, their daughter is a M.Div graduate from Oral Roberts University and is working with PG and Lilly traveling across the nation - teaching and preaching.

Ray the youngest son recently graduated with his MBA from Oral Roberts University.

A glimpse of the dedication and zeal of the Vargis family can perhaps be caught in a verse they hold close to their hearts:

"Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me

by the Lord Jesus - the work of telling others the Good News about

God’s mighty kindness and love." (Acts 20:24, TLB).

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM P.G. & LILLY VARGIS

We are so glad that you are visiting us on the Web. The greatest blessing we have enjoyed in our lives is the people God has brought to stand with us and see IET become the largest church-planting mission in India. There are innumerable people whom we have never seen, who love us dearly and are united with us in their hearts to reach the unreached at any cost!

We have no greater desire, no louder cry than to see our nation one day stand up for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and worship Him! We know that we know that we know, that a day shall come when we shall see with our own eyes this dream come true!

We have made it our challenge and mission to reach out to the unreached! We want you to know that you are so precious to us. We want you to be one with us, to stand with us and support us. Let us together "build the house of the Lord".

Yours

Dr P.G. & Lilly Vargis
